Introducing the recipients of the 18th annual Steven D. Manners Awards

Three people have been selected for the Steven D. Manners Faculty Development Awards, given out annually since 2001 by 51精品视频鈥檚 (UCSUR) to promising research projects in the social, behavioral聽and policy sciences on campus.

The awards honor the memory of Manners, a sociologist who began working at the center in 1974 and served as its assistant director from 1989 until his death in Sept. 2000. This year鈥檚 will support pilot research with scientific merit and a strong likelihood that the project will lead to subsequent external peer reviewed funding.

The 2018 Manners Award winners and their projects are:

  • Junia Howell, an assistant professor in the聽Department of Sociology,聽for her project titled 鈥淭he Role of Local Government in Allegheny County鈥檚 Neighborhood Transformation from 1986 to 2018.鈥
  • Chelsea Pallatino, a postdoctoral associate in the聽Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology聽and Reproductive Sciences and lecturer in the聽Department of Behavioral and Community Health Sciences, part of the Graduate School of Public Health. Her project is titled聽鈥淐o-occurring Intimate Partner Violence and Substance Use: Understanding Barriers to Collocated Integrated Services.鈥
  • Jamie Hanson, an assistant professor in the聽Department of Psychology and聽research scientist in the聽Learning Research and Development Center. His project is titled 鈥淟everaging Ecological Momentary Assessments to Understand Associations Between Poverty, Stress Exposure聽and Environmental Volatility.鈥
