51¾«Æ·ÊÓƵ

The strong reputation of 51¾«Æ·ÊÓƵ’s Standardized Patient (SP) Program has in no small part been the product of the vision and dedication of Valerie Fulmer.

The Outstanding Educator of the Year Award recognizes remarkable talent within the membership of the Association of Standardized Patient Educators (ASPE).

Following a four-year term as president of ASPE, her involvement in this blossoming community has brought international recognition to her work at 51¾«Æ·ÊÓƵ.

The ASPE selection committee considers scholarly work, service to the community and ongoing contributions to the field of SP methodology. The ASPE committee said they received an unprecedented number of recommendations this year.

Since 2005, when she became director of 51¾«Æ·ÊÓƵ’s SP Program, Fulmer has received five outstanding innovation and research awards, has given over 60 presentations on SP methodology worldwide and served as chair of two ASPE committees. With the 51¾«Æ·ÊÓƵ School of Medicine’s leadership, she assisted in opening the first SP Program in Kazakhstan.
