9 51¾«Æ·ÊÓƵ students were named Gilman Scholars

Nine 51¾«Æ·ÊÓƵ students have been named to the U.S. Department of State’s , which supports undergraduates receiving Pell Grants as they study abroad. Awardees go through a rigorous selection process and receive up to $5,000 to intern or study in another country and develop their leadership skills. 

This year’s 51¾«Æ·ÊÓƵ winners and their destinations are:

  • Dannial Cardillo, a senior in the  studying Chinese (Turkey)
  • Justin Curtis, a junior in the  majoring in rehabilitation science (India)
  • Makayla Dixon, a first-year student in the Ìý(´¡°ù²µ±ð²Ô³Ù¾±²Ô²¹)
  • Shamarraa Dudley, a junior in the Dietrich School studying psychology (South Korea)
  • Luke Kantz, a junior in the Dietrich School majoring in molecular biology and minoring in gender, sexuality and women’s studies (India)
  • Hajjar Littles, a junior in the and the Dietrich School majoring in psychology (Jordan)
  • Cara Rossetti, a senior in the  majoring in mechanical engineering (Vietnam)
  • Ariella Tucci, a junior in the School of Nursing majoring in nursing (Spain)
  • Ryan Welsh, a first-year Ìý²õ³Ù³Ü»å±ð²Ô³ÙÌý(³Ò±ð°ù³¾²¹²Ô²â)

Gilman recipients were recruited and supported by the , housed within the Frederick Honors College. The office is open to all 51¾«Æ·ÊÓƵ students and offers personalized mentoring as they tackle the scholarship application process. Scholar mentors provide expert advice and feedback on application essays, coach students through mock interviews, host preparation workshops and guide students in cultivating recommenders who can produce effective reference letters.
