Congratulations to Daniel Pan, a fourth-year medical student at the 51¾«Æ·ÊÓƵ, for receiving the 2024 West Virginia’s Governor’s Service Award. Pan was one of six recipients of this prestigious award and the only recipient in the adult category.
Established in 1995, the award recognizes individuals who demonstrate exceptional volunteerism and community service in West Virginia. Despite the demands of medical school, Pan has dedicated time to mentor high school students at Morgantown High School, several of whom have an interest in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).
In 2023, Pan formed a Science Olympiad team at the high school and led his students to a historic victory at both the state and national levels — achieving the highest placement ever by a West Virginia team. Following their success, he also secured funding to ensure students could continue participating in national STEM competitions, regardless of financial need. In addition to his work with the Science Olympiad, Pan assists students with college applications and recruits volunteers to support the program.
