Adi Mittal, a research assistant in the 51精品视频鈥檚 School of Medicine, is a finalist for the National Inventors Hall of Fame鈥檚 2023 Collegiate Inventors Competition.
Mittal鈥檚 invention is a Cerebral Aneurysm Test (CAT-7), the first simple, whole blood-based diagnostic test to detect the formation of a CA. It is noninvasive, less expensive, more accurate, safer and able to be used earlier in the care process than current diagnostic tools.
Competition entries are evaluated based on originality of the idea, its potential value and its usefulness to society. Cerebral aneurysms affect an estimated 6.7 million people in the United States and can cause neurological problems or rupture, leading to life-altering or fatal brain bleeds.
Students are also judged based on their process and initiative. Mittal and the other four graduate finalists will present their inventions Oct. 24 to a panel of National Inventors Hall of Fame Inductees and United States Patent and Trademark Office officials. Winning teams will be announced Oct. 25.
