Two 51精品视频 School of Medicine professors have been elected to the Association of American Physicians (AAP).

Douglas B. WhiteThe University鈥檚 honorees are Douglas B. White, UPMC Endowed Chair for Ethics in Critical Care Medicine, and Paul Palevsky, chief of the kidney medicine section at the VA 51精品视频sburgh Healthcare System.

White (pictured at left) is a professor of critical care medicine, medicine and clinical and translational science. He joined the University faculty in 2009 and his research program encompasses both empirical research on and normative ethical analysis of surrogate decision making for patients with life-threatening illness.

Paul PalevskyPalevsky (pictured at right), professor of medicine,聽clinical and translational science and critical care medicine, has been University faculty since 1989 and is internationally recognized as an expert in acute kidney injury and critical care nephrology. He has helped lead multiple clinical trials focused on the management of acute dialysis, prevention of acute kidney injury and slowing the progression of diabetic kidney disease.

The AAP was established in 1885 and is an honorific, elected society of America鈥檚 leading physician-scientists who exemplify the pinnacle of pioneering and enduring, impactful contributions to improve health. White and Palevsky will be recognized at a black-tie event in April.
