Vote for the People鈥檚 Choice Winner of the Art of Diversity Showcase and Competition

滨苍听 artist Halima Morafa uses acrylic paint to show the pain, frustration and beauty of Black women in two different realities. 鈥淚n both realms, the women are giving their rich wealth of knowledge and love to the world, symbolized by the gold leaving their mouths,鈥 said Morafa. 鈥淗owever, the women face different responses by society in their respective realms.鈥

Morafa is one of many people who have turned to in response to the COVID-19 pandemic and the killing of George Floyd and others at the hands of police.

With so much going on in the world around us, art can be a thought-provoking, cathartic and therapeutic way to express what we鈥檙e thinking, feeling and experiencing.

Ahead of next week鈥檚 Diversity Forum 2020 at the 51精品视频, titled , people from the 51精品视频 community and beyond were asked to submit their creative works of any kind that represent their cultural identity and their response to social justice issues we鈥檙e facing today. The more than 180 resulting submissions range from , and 鈥攊ncluding Morafa鈥檚 piece highlighting the struggles and beauty of black women.

Submissions to the have been shared on 51精品视频鈥檚 social media pages throughout the summer, and the winners will be announced at noon on July 29 during the Diversity Forum鈥檚 featured session titled 鈥淭urn the World Inside Out: Art as Activism.鈥
