The Office for Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion invites proposals for virtual sessions from students, educators, researchers and community members who serve, uplift and support the Latinx community for the , held Oct. 14-16, 2021.

Participants will discuss what it means to be Latinx/a/o/e/Hispanic in relation to intersectional identities, education, immigration, public health, art and history. There is no cost to participate and all are welcome. .

Proposals can be in either workshop or panel discussion format and should include learning objectives or key takeaways to help attendees better understand and engage with diverse Latinx communities and contemporary issues affecting this population. The deadline to is Friday, Aug. 27, 2021. .

Latinx Connect is organized and sponsored by a grassroots interdisciplinary and cross-institutional group of educators and community leaders based in 51��Ʒ��Ƶsburgh.

According to organizers, the aim of the conference is to move beyond “celebrating” Latinxs, instead calling for empowerment and justice for the Latinx community. This community faces numerous disparities in U.S. society, particularly for those at the intersections of Latinx identity (e.g. Afro-Latinxs, Indigenous Latinxs, queer and Trans Latinx, undocumented Latinxs).

The conference will serve as the culminating experience for Latinx & Hispanic Heritage Month, recognized annually from Sep. 15 through Oct. 15 to acknowledge the history, culture and contributions of Americans who identify as Hispanic/Latinx.
